Human Trafficking Awareness Program 2025 at Divya Gyan College Kathmandu – Empowering Students Against Exploitation

Divya Gyan College successfully hosted an impactful Human Trafficking Awareness Program on November 26, 2025, at its centrally located campus in Putalisadak, Kamaladi Mode, Kathmandu. This event was organized in strong collaboration with the Leo Club of Kathmandu Upakar and the Social Club of Divya Gyan College, proudly sponsored by Lions Club of Kathmandu Upakar and Divya Gyan College. It aligned with the initiatives of Lions International (Leo District Council 325 J, Nepal – Multiple District 325, Lions Year 2025/26), emphasizing respect, harmony, and collaborative action for a safer society.

Human trafficking remains a serious concern in Nepal, with recent data from the U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report and Nepal Police highlighting hundreds of investigations annually into sex trafficking, forced labor, and child trafficking cases. Authorities identified hundreds of potential victims in recent fiscal years, underscoring the vulnerability of young people, women, and marginalized communities to deceptive job offers, unsafe migration, and exploitation in labor, sexual, or other forms of modern slavery.

Starting at 8:00 AM, the program delivered essential education to students (primarily from BCA and BBS programs), faculty, and staff. It covered key topics including the various forms of human trafficking prevalent in Nepal, common red flags and warning signs, effective prevention strategies, safe migration practices, and actionable steps for reporting suspicious activities or seeking help.

The highlight was an engaging presentation by experienced trainer Mr. Aasta Dimdung, who shared real-world examples, current statistics, and interactive discussions. Attendees gained practical knowledge to identify risks, protect themselves and peers, and contribute to community vigilance—fostering proactive responsibility among Nepal's youth.

This awareness event reflects Divya Gyan College's dedication to holistic student development. Beyond academic excellence in IT (BCA) and management (BBS) affiliated with Tribhuvan University, the college prioritizes social responsibility, leadership, and real-world awareness. Partnering with dynamic youth organizations like the Leo Club empowers students to address pressing societal issues and become informed change-makers.

Heartfelt thanks to Leo Dipesh Tamang, President of Leo Club of Kathmandu Upakar, trainer Mr. Aasta Dimdung, dedicated volunteers, and the Social Club team for their exceptional coordination and passion. Gratitude also extends to the sponsors for enabling this meaningful initiative.

At Divya Gyan College, we believe awareness is the foundation of prevention. Through programs like this, we equip future leaders with the tools to build a safer, more equitable Nepal free from exploitation.
